DIABSCREEN KERALA
FREE DIABETES CAMPS

Diabscreen Kerala is a major diabetes awareness project of P.Kesavadev Trust since 1997. The Diabscreen Kerala team headed by Dr.Jothydev Kesavadev conducts diabetes awareness, prevention and treatment programs at various geographical locations within the state in collaboration with regional organizations. The multidisciplinary team including doctors, dieticians, nurses, diabetes educators, pharmacists, psychologists etc. has conducted more than 689 free camps to promote healthy life styles, create awareness on intensive diabetes management, suggest preventive measures, and assure a healthy stress free life in old age for all patients with diabetes. Free diabetes detection including anthropometric measurements, lab investigations, lectures on prevention of lifestyle illnesses, various aspects of diabetes management by doctors, dietitians, nurses, consultation by doctors, provide free medications etc form the typical activities of a free diabetes camp. In every camp, the patients are strictly instructed to continue treatment with their treating physician.

Promote and Popularize Malayalam Language

The word 'Malayalam' may have been a local dialect in the beginning. In the word, 'Mala' refers to a hill, and 'Alam' refers to the depths of the ocean. The credit of being the exponent of progressive Malayalam literature is owned by Kesavadev alone. Dev was a prolific writer in Malayalam producing thirty-one novels, over one hundred short-stories, over forty Dramas and one Act plays, several Essays and an autobiography. In memory of the legendary writer, P.Kesavadev Trust supports activities to promote Malayalam literature, by sponsoring Malayalam newspapers and reading materials to schools in and around Thiruvananthapuram.

DIABETES EDUCATION THROUGH YOUTUBE CHANNELS AND SOCIAL MEDIA

There is a saying that Gaining knowledge is the first step to wisdom and sharing it, the first step to humanity. The Trust explores diverse platforms such as magazines, radio, television, social media, etc to educate people on various aspects of diabetes management. Kesavadev Trust runs a YouTube channel for spreading awareness about diabetes which features more than 200 diabetes educational videos.

PUBLIC AWARENESS PROGRAMS AS A SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

It is estimated that there occurs a death due to diabetes every ten seconds. The unawareness among common man about the harmful effects of diabetes such as heart attacks, blindness, kidney damage, leg ulcers, loss of sexual ability, etc has been considered as the root cause for these devastating complications of diabetes. The dedicated diabetes multidisciplinary team from Jothydev's Diabetes Research Centre, a venture of P.Kesavadev Trust as part of their social responsibility always finds happiness in investing their time and efforts to educate the public, patients and their caregivers on methods to tackle this silent killer. The Trust also organizes awareness programs in schools and colleges to let the budding brains know about lifestyle illnesses and to prevent the burden of diabetes in the next generation.

KT1DP Sweet Stars Project

A goodwill project of Kesavadev Trust is the 'Kesavadev Trust Type 1 diabetes project (KT1DP) Sweet Stars initiative. 'KT1DP Sweet Stars' Program had its launch on 8th November 2016 to help the economically challenged kids with type 1 diabetes. For a good number of kids with type 1 diabetes to lead a normal life with normal longevity, insulin pumps are inevitable. Providing insulin pumps and accessories and continuing care to the ailing children is equivalent to gifting them life and thus the generous attempt. The program has its support from many benevolent personalities and organizations.The Trust also maintains a Facebook page to bring together type 1 kids not only from Kerala but spread across the globe.

Dev's World-The Literary Museum

A travelogue towards the life of iconic personalities is always fascinating and inspiring. Such a wonderful person who touched the lives of many is the well-known writer and the social reformer P.Kesavadev. "Dev's World" is a sincere attempt from P. Kesavadev Trust to let the world know Kesavadev as a person, a family man, a writer, a social reformer, a revolutionist and an orator. The priceless records of the writer are preserved in both conventional and digitalized forms in Dev's World situated at Mudavanmugal, Thiruvananthapuram.

SUPPORTING ORIGINAL RESEARCH
IN DIABETES

Research is sometimes defined as the distance between an idea and its realization. Having diverse stocks in one's portfolio will always enhance the outcomes. With these elements wavering in the curious brains of many, the Trust had framed its Research Wing at Jothydev's Diabetes Research Centre (JDC). Since 1997, the Research Centre has been in the forefront implementing novel ideologies in diabetes care. Headed by Dr. Jothydev Kesavadev, the Research wing has many published original research works to its credit including the use of telemedicine to prevent the costly complications of diabetes, use of technologies in diabetes etc. The focus of all the researches is to reduce the overall cost of diabetes care, efficient use of technology in delivering education, pioneering projects in telemedicine, insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring. The Institutional Ethics Committee of JDC safeguards the rights of patients participating in clinical trials at the centre.

RSSDI Advanced Certificate Course in Diabetology

The RSSDI Advanced Certificate Course in Diabetology provides stand-alone, up-to-date topics relevant to any post MD/post MBBS doctor wishing to improve the quality of their diabetes care. The fellowship certificate course accredited by Jaipur National University covers all the major clinical and organizational aspects of care of this chronic illness.

JDC Fellowship Course in Diabetology

Created for health professionals who work in primary and secondary care, our Diploma-MSc course in Diabetes / Endocrinology will focus on clinically relevant areas of Diabetes / Endocrinology that will help develop the management of patients with diabetes. The courses are delivered by eminent national and international experts in Diabetes and Endocrinology.

Jothydev's Professional Education Forum (JPEF) Annual Conventions

Successful management of diabetes requires the dedicated efforts of the healthcare team, continuous learning and knowledge updating by professionals etc. Jothydev's Professional Education Forum (JPEF) was established with the motto of imparting basic and advanced knowledge in diabetes at its best for professionals in diabetes management and care. Since its formation in 2013, JPEF has been organizing annual conventions for health care professionals to share their ideologies, grasp novel concepts, meet pioneers in the field, and innovate new ventures and to get motivated.

JPEF Mini CMEs

In addition to annual global diabetes conventions, JPEF organizes Mini JPEF CMEs for doctors every month which pave the way for the healthcare professionals to get exposed to the various domains in diabetes management and care. In CMEs, eminent faculty from diabetes and related fields deliver lectures on current trends in diabetes treatment and care. There will also be Case study discussions and Panel discussions on CMEs which will be beneficial to the participants.

World Diabetes Day (WDD) programs

World Diabetes Day (WDD) was created in 1991 by International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the World Health Organization in response to growing concerns about the escalating health threat posed by diabetes. World Diabetes Day became an official United Nations Day in 2006 with the passage of United Nation Resolution 61/225. World Diabetes Day is considered as the biggest diabetes awareness campaign with a reach of several million people. P.Kesavadev Trust has been organizing relevant thematic World Diabetes Day (WDD) events since 2000 at various parts of Kerala. Walks, Television programs, Radio talks, Quiz programs, Processions, Exhibitions, Free camps, awareness lectures make the event relatable and sensible to the WDD theme. The consistent efforts of Trust in observing WDD was recognized by IDF in 2012. One of the largest campaigns ever in the history of Kerala to mark the World Diabetes Month, Diabetes Kerala 2012 activities were supported by IDF. The 14-day long campaign from Nov 12-25, 2012 with 14 different programs spanning 14 districts in Kerala was one of its kinds in the entire history of Kerala.

INSTITUTIONAL ETHICS COMMITTEE

The Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) at Jothydev's Diabetes Research Centre, was framed in the year 2006. The basic responsibility of IEC is to ensure a competent review of all ethical & scientific aspects of the research projects at JDC and to safeguard the rights and well-being of the patients. The IEC is registered with the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) and holds National Accreditation Board for Hospitals (NABH) accreditation.

FREE DIABETES SUPPLIES TO THE SOCIO-ECONOMICALLY CHALLENGED

P.Kesavadev Trust supports the laboratory investigations, glucometer, glucometer strips, insulin, medications and consultation of more than 500 diabetes patients who are socio-economically challenged.

P.Kesavadev JPEF Best Young Researcher Award

P.Kesavadev JPEF Best Young Researcher Award has been instituted with the aim to encourage diabetes research in India. The prestigious award which holds cash prize of INR 1, 00,000, gold medal, citation and travel grant will be given to a young diabetes researcher for his/her original work unpublished at the time of submission. The award applicant should be aged 40 years or less and can be from any speciality of medicine or a basic scientist or from any other science or nutrition. The research should be original, entirely done in India and should enrich or contribute to diabetes research in India.

JPEF Best Abstract Award

JPEF Best Abstract Award is instituted to promote research aptitude among medicine doctors, dietitians and allied healthcare professionals from India and abroad. Best oral and poster awards will be presented to competent research works.

JPEF Stalwart Physician Award

JPEF Stalwart Physician Award is conferred to stalwarts in the field of diabetes in recognition of their contributions to the science and society.
